Wecan Eat Cheap

I read the coolest article in the school paper today. I thought it was so cool, that I'd share it with you... because (Choose Best Answer):
A. You are also cool and would understand just how cool this article is.
B. You are so lame; you need the coolness of this article to help you become cool.
C. I am really lame, and the article isn't that cool, but it's pretty interesting anyway.
D. What the? I didn't know there was going to be a test!

Anyway, here she is:
Hungry Students? Wecan help
It is the start of a new semester and you haven't even begun to think about dwindling food amounts, or high cost of vegetables, or having to choose between buying a Cole's Notes booklet to pass English and going hungry, or buying groceries and maybe failing your next exam.
Suggestions?
Take a pre-emptive strike against that future stress by signing up now with an organization that orders well-balanced amounts of nutritious food for students and other low-income persons on a monthly basis for up to 35% savings from store prices like Safeway or Save-On Foods.
"You have to feed your body good nutritious food so that your brain can get the enzymes you need to learn," says Madeleine Blanchette, treasurer of the Wecan Food Basket society of Alberta. Wecan's aim is to provide reasonably priced, nutritious, and ample supplies of food to people each month that might otherwise not be able to access those luxuries.
Anyone interested in buying this food is able to pay a $2.50 membership price that conveniently runs from October to April, and you can choose the diversity of food in your basket.
For $12 you can purchase a meat order that consists of 500g of lean ground beef, 1 kg of beef roast, and 1 kg of chicken all provided fresh and cut the day before.
You can order two or three meat orders at one time, and store them in your freezer until you need them. Or you can cook them into casseroles, stir-frys, and stews, freeze them and then later thaw them to enjoy ready-made meals on time-crunched days.
Meat not your thing?
Or maybe not your only idea of a good food group? Well, they offer a produce order as well. For only $8 you can receive 1 kg of bananas, 1 kg of pears, 1 cantaloupe, 1 head of lettuce, 1 large cabbage, 1 cucumber, and 2 kilo's of potatoes. If you compare that to store prices you can save up to $4 per order. If you combine both your meat and produce order you pay $20, and you save $8 off of grocery store prices, but don't worry the food you are about to enjoy is provided by a reputable company, The Grocery People.
The types of meat and produce vary from month to mount as well, so you will also receive some variety in your diet.
Not only does Wecan provide the cheap food, they actually provide recipes, cooking directions, and storing ideas to help students create a balanced approach to eating.
Blanchette currently tries to jazz up her depots' baskets by "bringing in extra items like sausages, canned goods, cheese, and smokies and offers them at discounted prices.
"Instead of paying 67 cents for a can of soup, you pay 34-35 cents as our members," Blanchette says.
Blanchette joined the Wecan program as a volunteer after she had been using the organization herself to provide a cheaper alternative for her family's groceries.
She found herself employed by them when the depot by her house was due to close because they couldn't find someone to run it - so she jumped in and stepped up to the plate.
She feels badly that students try to buy cheap unhealthy food when the alternative of good healthy food can be affordable and stretched so much further.
The food orders are brought in the third Thursday or Friday of every month and you can pick up your orders at any of the 20-odd Wecan depots around the city. To order food, ask questions, or check out proximity of depots go to www.wecanfoodbasket.com and click on the appropriate links

Isn't that awesome? Everyone should take advantage of programs like these and they should definitely be more publicized. If you know anyone who would benefit from this info, student or not send them to the site. And if there's not a similar service in your area, why not start one? Seriously.
